– Episode 1634 –
A Pastor Puts the Pulpit Back and Wears a Suit: the Results Were “A Disaster.”
Segment 1 (0:00) – How we gather corporately says a lot about whom we are gathered for. Gathering for a rodeo in what used to be a sanctuary and calling it corporate worship is a bridge too far. The gathering of the church should be a sanctified affair; not somber, but sober. Before you curtail a tradition, pause long enough to remember why it is a tradition in the first place. We should at least think these things through biblically.
Segment 2 (9:06) – Many church traditions find there foundation in the Bible. Not all, but many. Don’t make ecclesiastical changes quickly and, most importantly, don’t make changes contrary to sound biblical wisdom and teaching.
Segment 3 (16:21) – Don’t be discouraged, sound biblical changes may run some off! One pastor’s attempt to solemnify the service with a pulpit drove one third of his congregation away. Far from being discouraged, he had always known those who left were not there to worship to begin with, having no heart for the gospel. Before long, new families looking for sound biblical teaching showed up and filled in the empty pews.
